barcelona reverbera

a project by Jota Cassone and sbrk devices: convolution reverb with IRs of some of barcelona's most iconic spaces

barcelona reverbera

barcelona reverbera is a convolution reverb plugin that recreates the acoustics of different emblematic spaces of the city of Barcelona. This is achieved by capturing their impulse responses (IRs) with a high quality microphone. The goal of this software tool is to democratize access to the acoustics of these spaces, allowing anyone with a computer and a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) to apply the reverb of these places to their own recordings and music pieces. The resulting sound obtained by convolving an audio piece with a IR of a room is similar to the one obtained by recording that same piece inside the room.

furthermore, our project aspires to become a IR database of spaces of Barcelona, Catalonia and the rest of Spain. Our main motivation for this project is the conservation of the acoustic characteristics of the architecture of our land. Barcelona reverbera has been conceived and coordinated by Jota Cassone, and sbrk devices has been in charge of the software development of the convolution reverb algorithm and the VST plugin. This is a list of some of the spaces in Barcelona where we have recorded impulse responses:

  • MNAC - Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalynya
  • Centro Cultural La Modelo
  • Palau de la Musica Catalana
  • Paraninfo del Edificio Histórico de la UB
  • Refugi 307
  • Universitat de Barcelona - Lobby
